Benno Schulz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benno Schulz (born October 5, 1935 in Stettin ; † July 10, 2005 in Bechyně , Czech Republic ) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Life

Benno Schulz was born on October 5, 1935 in Stettin (today's Poland). The family moved to Parchim in 1945 , where he completed his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker in 1953 and graduated from the Workers and Farmers Faculty of Rostock University in 1956 . From 1956 to 1961 he studied art education at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald and received the diploma as an art teacher. In Halle he worked from 1961 to 62 as a teacher for art education and handicrafts. In 1962 he began additional studies at the Halle University of Industrial Design, Burg Giebichenstein , which he completed in 1964 with a diploma as a painter and graphic artist with Hannes H. Wagner . He stayed at the “Burg” as a research assistant with a teaching assignment in the section “Artistic and Scientific Foundations of Design” and was appointed lecturer in 1969. Here he further developed the basic design theory begun by Prof. Lothar Zitzmann and, after his death in 1977, developed documentation from the fragmentary estate (see below) and expanded the basic theory.

In 1985 he moved to the Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale), where he took over the position of university drawing teacher until it was deleted in 1996. In the long tradition, he became the last university drawing teacher at the university. This position is characterized by the fact that other visual artists, e.g. B. Conrad Felixmüller held it. For many decades he worked as a part-time circle leader (including for teacher training and further education) and at the special school for circle leaders.

In particular, his work on basic visual and design training is still used today.
