Benno Richard Arent , von Arent since 1891 (born February 1, 1823 in Guhrau , † August 2, 1899 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Benno was the son of Rittmeister Christoph Friedrich Arent (1788–1827) and his wife Jeanette Augustine, née Hellpape (1799–1874).

Military career

He got his education in the private school of the director Knauth in Königsberg in Prussia . From there he came to the cadet house in Berlin as a pensioner . Then he came on August 9, 1840 as a second lieutenant in the 2nd Leibhusaren Regiment . In 1848 he took part in the fight against a revolt in Poznan . From November 1, 1849 to November 6, 1850 he was assigned to the military riding school in Schwedt . He returned to his regiment, but was again assigned to the military riding school from April 1, 1851 to September 30, 1851. Promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on June 22, 1852, he joined the Veterinary School on October 15, 1853. Subsequently, from May 8 to October 16, 1854, he was posted as an auxiliary officer in the Remonte purchase commission for the central provinces. After his return he came back to the animal medicine school.

From May 15, 1855 to November 15, 1857, with brief interruptions, he was repeatedly assigned as an auxiliary officer to the Remonte purchasing commission. Promoted to Rittmeister on August 18, 1857, he joined the 2nd Landwehr Hussar Regiment on November 15, 1857 as a squadron leader. From May 27, 1858 to November 15, 1858 he was the first assistant officer in the Remonte purchase commission in Prussia. From April 26 to August 18, 1859, he was the leader of the replacement squadron of the 2nd Leib-Hussar Regiment and on June 30, 1859, the regiment's squadron chief. On September 13, 1862, he was then awarded the Crown Order, 4th class . From December 11, 1863 to June 15, 1864 the regiment was commanded to occupy the border to Trzemeszno (Tremessen) and Gnesen . He became major on June 7, 1866 and received the service cross on June 13, 1866 .

During the German War of 1866 he fought near Rudelsdorf, Tobitschau, Rokitnitz and Königgrätz . After the war, on October 30, 1866, he joined the 8th Hussar Regiment as a regular staff officer . He was entrusted with the management of the regiment on December 11, 1869 and was placed à la suite of the regiment. On March 10, 1870, he was confirmed as commander of the regiment and on July 26, 1870, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. During the Franco-Prussian War he fought in the siege of Metz , the battles at Colombey and Gravelotte and the battles near Saarbrücken, Ars-Laquenery, Peltre, Merry-le-Haut, Auxerre, Toucy, Champlitte, Marnay, Byans and Pantarlier. For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on September 12, 1870 and the Iron Cross 1st Class on January 19, 1871, and on January 18, 1872 he was promoted to Colonel.

After the war, on November 16, 1874, he was entrusted with the command of the 1st Cavalry Brigade and was assigned à la suite of the 8th Hussar Regiment; on January 2, 1876, he was confirmed as commander. On January 2, 1877, he was promoted to major general and on August 31, 1878, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves , and on September 9, 1879, the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class with a Star . On December 7, 1882, he was then put up for disposition with the character of Lieutenant General . On March 22, 1897, he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle. He died in Görlitz on August 2, 1899.

In recognition of his services, Arent was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on July 25, 1891 on board the Hohenzollern in Tromsø .

family

Arent had married Wilhelmine Clara Klothilde von Knobelsdorff (1829-1908) from the Topper house on December 12, 1855 in Schwedt . She was the daughter of the Knighthood Councilor Ernst von Knobelsdorff.
