Life

Mardones was born in Cleveland in 1946 and grew up in Savage , Maryland . As a teenager, he formed his first band and performed in local high schools and colleges in Maryland. His debut album Thank God for Girls was released in 1978. The album contains cover versions of the Alessi Brothers song All for a Reason and the Bee Gees hit I Started a Joke . All for a Reason was released as a promotional single.

Mardones became famous for his hit single Into the Night , which was in the top 20 of the Billboard single charts in 1980 and again in 1989 . In the long term, however, Mardones remained a one-hit wonder . He made a surprising comeback in 2002 and 2003 when three of his singles hit the adult contemporary charts on Billboard . I Need a Miracle , I Want It All (2002) and I Know You by Heart (2003, a duet with Katrina Carlson ) made the top 30.

Mardones lived in Syracuse , New York , for a few years from 1985 before moving to Playa Del Rey , California. In 1985 he became the father of a son. His life in Syracuse and the birth of his son, he said, helped him overcome his cocaine addiction . In 2001 he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease . His family set up a crowdfunding site in 2018 to treat these and several other diseases . He died in California in June 2020 at the age of 73.
