Benoît Pierre David Assou-Ekotto (born March 24, 1984 in Arras ) is a former French - Cameroonian football player on the position of left back.
Career
society
Assou-Ekotto began his professional career in 2003 at RC Lens , which had signed him in 1994 from his youth club ASPTT Arras. He made his Ligue 1 debut on March 28, 2004 against Paris Saint-Germain . The game was won 1-0, two more missions followed. At the end of the season, the RC Lens was eighth in Ligue 1. Assou-Ekotto's most successful season with the RC Lens was the 2005/06 season, in which they finished fourth: the RC Lens qualified for the UEFA Cup via the UI Cup and were divorced in the third round against Udinese Calcio . Assou-Ekotto played for the first time internationally in the first leg against Lech Posen ; the game ended 2-1.
The following year Assou-Ekotto moved to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League . He played his first competitive game on August 19, 2006 on the first day of play against Bolton Wanderers , which was lost 2-0. After the first season he came due to a knee injury in the 2007/08 season only to an appearance in the Premier League and one in the UEFA Cup . In 2008/09 Assou-Ekotto was a regular at Spurs; in 38 games he was used 29 times. Tottenham finished eighth and lost 4-1 to Manchester United in the final of the English League Cup on penalties.
On September 2, 2013, Assou-Ekotto moved to the end of the season on loan in the Football League Championship to the Queens Park Rangers . In February 2015, his contract with Tottenham Hotspur was terminated after he had not played a game under coach Mauricio Pochettino in the 2014/15 season. He played his last game for Tottenham in May 2013.
On August 16, 2016, Assou-Ekotto signed a contract with FC Metz . The defender played here until the summer of 2018 and has been without a new club since then.
National team
On February 11, 2009, he was called up for a friendly against Guinea for the first time in the Cameroonian national team , for which he had decided, although he could also have played for the French association. He took part in the 2014 World Cup with the national team and caused a stir when he gave his own teammate Benjamin Moukandjo a head-butt in the game against Croatia . Cameroon was eliminated in the preliminary round.
