Benson Kipchumba Cherono (born June 30, 1984 ) is a Qatari long-distance runner of Kenyan origin who specializes in the marathon .

In 2004 he was third in the 25 km from Berlin in 1:13:01 behind Paul Malakwen Kosgei , who won in a world record time, and Luke Kibet , who became the 2007 marathon world champion. That same year he finished fifth in the New York City Marathon .

In 2005 he came first in the Beijing Marathon in 2:06:55, but shortly before he had mistakenly followed a camera car driving directly in front of him and therefore ran 800 m too little. The organizers nevertheless awarded him the victory, since at the time of the misdirection he was over two minutes ahead of the next runners.

In 2006 he set the current course records (as of early 2008) at the Los Angeles Marathon (2:08:39) and the Milan Marathon (2:07:58, also personal best).

In 2007 he accepted an offer to start for Qatar in the future. In 2009 he finished third in the Venice Marathon .
