Beoga [ ˈbʲoːgə ] ( Irish for lively ) is an Irish folk band. The band combines traditional Irish music with modern influences in what has been called the new wave trad . It was founded in 2002 with All-Ireland Fleadh in County Kerry . The four founding members Damian McKee ( button accordion ), Seán Óg Graham (button accordion, guitar ), Liam Bradley ( piano ) and Eamon Murray ( bodhrán ) come from County Antrim and County Londonderry in Northern Ireland . Since 2005 Niamh Dunne ( fiddle , vocals ) from County Limerick has also been part of the group.
Band history
The album mischief was proposed for the 2007 Live Ireland Music Award and the German Music Prize. In 2009 the band received a US House of Representatives Certificate of Congressional Recognition , and the Wall Street Journal named them the most exciting traditional band to emerge from Ireland this century . Her third album, the incident , was shortlisted for the 2010 Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary World Music Album .
Ed Sheeran invited Beoga to work on his album ÷ (divide) in 2016 . The band members worked as co-writers on Galway Girl , using elements from Minute 5 of their 2011 album how to tune a fish . Beoga can also be heard on ÷ (divide) on the track Nancy Mulligan . On June 25, 2017, the band accompanied Ed Sheeran on the piece "Nancy Mulligan" during his appearance as headliner at the Glastonbury Festival .
The "mini-album" Carousel , released in May 2020, is a stylistic turn towards pop music. The album is shaped by the collaboration with various guest musicians.
