Bermo is a department in the region of Maradi in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the center of the country. It consists of the rural communities of Bermo and Gadabédji . The eponymous capital of the department is Bermo. In elections to the National Assembly, the Bermo department forms one of eight special constituencies across the country. While the regular constituencies, in which a certain number of MPs are elected, correspond to the eight regions of Niger, those entitled to vote in the special constituencies each elect their own MP.

history

The department goes back to the poste administratif of Bermo, which was established in 1988. In 2011 the administrative post was removed from the Dakoro department and raised to the Bermo department.

population

According to the 2012 census, the department of Bermo has 52,274 inhabitants. From 2001 to 2012, the population increased by an average of 4.0% annually (nationwide: 3.9%).

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
