Bernard Ayandho

Bernard Ayandho (born December 15, 1930 , † 1993 ) was Prime Minister of the Central African Republic from 1979 to 1980 .

Political career

Ayandho belonged to the Mouvement pour l'Évolution Sociale d'Afrique Noire (MESAN) party founded by Barthélemy Boganda in 1949 , which became a unity party after the country gained independence from France in 1960 . When Jean-Bédel Bokassa, alias Emperor Bokassa I, who had ruled since 1966 , was overthrown by his cousin, ex-President David Dacko , Ayandho took over the office of head of government on September 26, 1979. His predecessor, Henri Maïdou , became Dacko's vice president. Shortly afterwards he switched from MESAN to the party founded by Dacko in March 1980Union Démocratique Centrafricaine (UDC), which ruled the country until Dacko's overthrow on September 20, 1981.

Ayandho's term of office ended on August 22, 1980, when Dacko briefly took over the office of head of government himself.
