Simplice Sarandji

Mathieu Simplice Sarandji (born April 4, 1955 in Baoro , formerly Ubangi-Shari , now Central African Republic ) is a Central African politician and was Prime Minister of the Central African Republic from April 2, 2016 to February 27, 2019 . He was previously chief of staff under his predecessor Faustin Archange Touadéra and also acted as campaign manager for Touadéra's successful election as president . Sarandji is also non-party .

Life

School career

Sarandji holds a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Bordeaux Montaigne . He then taught for four years at Bangui University , where he also became dean .

Political career

Sarandji and Faustin Archange Touadéra already knew each other from their time as students. Sarandji was initially entrusted with the role of Chief of Staff for Touadéra, who was then Prime Minister. As campaign manager in the presidential elections in the Central African Republic , which lasted from December 2015 to February 2016, Sarandji Touadéra helped Touadéra to be elected successfully. On April 2, 2016, Touadéra again appointed Sarandji as the new Prime Minister of the Central African Republic. He replaced Mahamat Kamoun .

He appointed his first cabinet on April 12, among the 23 members are Jean-Serge Bokassa, Charles Armel Doubane and Joseph Yakete, all of whom were against Touadéra in the presidential election campaign. Furthermore, Sarandji decided not to nominate any participant in the 2013 coup to his cabinet.

On February 22, 2019, he announced his resignation. On February 27, 2019, he was replaced as Prime Minister by Firmin Ngrébada .

Others

As Prime Minister, Sarandji was protected neither by bodyguards nor by the native country, but by a special unit of the Rwandan police, which were deployed by the United Nations to ensure Sarandji's safety. Sarandji praised the special unit.
