Celestin Gaombalet

Célestin Leroy Gaombalet (born January 1, 1942 , † December 19, 2017 in Agen ) was Prime Minister of the Central African Republic from 2003 to 2005 .

Political career

Gambolat was General Manager of the Central African Development Bank (Banque de Développement d'Afrique Centrale) in Brazzaville and the Banque Populaire Maroco-Centrafricaine in Bangui . He was non-party and had never held a leading position in the civil service until 2003.

On December 12, 2003 he was prime minister when his predecessor Abel Goumba was first dismissed and then vice-president of the president François Bozizé . The President was a member of his cabinet as Minister of Defense. In September 2004 the president dismissed the government and instructed Gambolat to form a new cabinet. After the introduction of a new constitution and Bozizé's re-election, he submitted his resignation on June 11, 2005 in order to take up his new post as President of Parliament of the National Assembly of the Central African Republic . The parliament had elected him a few days earlier with 78 to 18 votes. In the 2011 election , Gaombalet was re-elected to the National Assembly and was also re-elected President of the National Assembly. He lost his position in the 2013 coup by Michel Djotodia .
