Bernardus Estinghausen, 44th Abbot of Marienfeld

Bernardus Estinghausen (born January 2, 1700 in Beckum ; † May 24, 1769 ) was a German priest and abbot of the Marienfeld monastery .

Life

Bernardus Estinghausen was born in Beckum on January 2, 1700 (parents: Bernard Estinghausen, Mayor of Beckum, and Johanna Christina Frey). On May 11, 1721, he entered the Cistercian Order with three confreres . On May 17, 1722 he made his profession in Marienfeld . First, on July 23, 1733, Brother Bernardus was appointed to be the vicar's assistant in Rulle . On July 10, 1739 he became prior . When he was appointed provost of the Catholic Church in Osnabrück , the office of prior in Marienfeld remained vacant for the time being. When he meanwhile became a pastorwas determined in Rulle, he was also appointed as confessor on August 5, 1740. In 1748 he was appointed prior again. On October 24, 1757, the Marienfeld convent elects the confrere as the 44th abbot of Marienfeld . After eleven and a half years in office, he died on May 24, 1769. His grave can be found in the ambulatory in front of the sacristy.

Construction activity

Abbot Bernardus Estinghausen has a new gate built in front of the abbey , which is now in Warendorf and is known as the "Marienfelder Tor" or "Münster Tor".
