Bernd Altenstein (born April 29, 1943 in Schloßberg , East Prussia) is a German sculptor and university professor.

biography

Altenstein studied sculpture at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1964 to 1969 in R. Daudert's class. From 1970 to 1975 he was a research assistant at the TU Braunschweig with Jürgen Weber . From 1975 to 2009 Altenstein taught the plastic course at the Bremen University of the Arts . Together with Waldemar Otto , he shaped the Bremen figurative sculpture. Typical of his work are a differentiated formal language down to all details of the modeling and a great interest in social content.

After Waldemar Otto retired in 1994, the von Altenstein class became increasingly attractive, as there was hardly any figurative work at art academies in Germany. The class became a reservoir for contemporary figurative sculpture from all over Germany.

He is a member of the Artists' Association in Germany and the Darmstadt Secession and a founding member of the Society for Contemporary Art in Bremen.

In 2010 he became a member of the Independent Bremen eV association , an association of people - mostly from the business world - who want to become an association of voters or support a community of voters.
