Bernd Hänschke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernd Hänschke (born December 1, 1948 in Duisburg ) is a German composer .

Hänschke studied school music at the State University of Music in Cologne . At the same time he studied composition with Joachim Blume and Hans Ulrich Humpert . A second degree in composition (1980–1983) in the master class of Hans Werner Henze in Cologne fundamentally changed his style.

Since 1974 he has been working as a high school teacher in Moers .

His catalog raisonné shows works of all genres, often showing a tendency towards the theatrical, the scenic. Since he almost always seeks contact with the other arts in his music, he collaborated with the painters Christof Heyduck and Hans Werner Berretz (Ha Webe), which resulted in large cyclical works and art videos in which the two arts influence each other.

In 1989 he founded the Henze Chamber Ensemble . Since then, as conductor and artistic director of this ensemble, he has been committed to the chamber music of Hans Werner Henze, and above all to works by students of Henze, without making a dogma out of them.

In 1998, together with the Danish composer Mogens Christensen , he initiated “ EuHenzeNord ”, a German-Danish joint project in which, in addition to the Henze chamber ensemble, the two Danish ensembles “Ensemble Nord” and “Euterpe” were involved.

Since 1996 he has been a permanent guest conductor of the “ Luis Casas Romero ” festival in Camagüey , Cuba , in close collaboration with the festival's co-founder and chief artistic director, the English composer David Paul Graham . This engagement culminated in 1999 and 2000 in two international music theater projects, the dance theater project "Ebbó" and the international joint opera "El Caballero de la Triste Figura". He was also involved in both projects as a composer.

Since 2000 he has been a lecturer at the University of Music Detmold , Dortmund department, the Ensemble Neue Musik.
