Bernd Jessa (born September 23, 1949 ) is a former German soccer player.

Athletic career

The midfielder Jessa came in 1966 as a youth from the BSG Lokomotive Güstrow to FC Hansa Rostock , where he was initially used in the junior division. From March 1970 Jessa played for the second-rate GDR league club KKW Nord Greifswald , for whom he completed 26 point games in attack or in midfield in uninterrupted order until December 1970 and scored six goals. At the beginning of 1971, Jessa moved back to Hansa Rostock and played eleven times for the rest of the season in the 2nd team, which also played in the GDR league.

In the 1971/72 season of the East German league, Jessa moved up to the first Rostock team and completed his first appearance in the top division of the GDR on August 28, 1971, which was followed by four more missions during the season. 1972/73 Jessa completed six games at the beginning of the season in the league and one use in the FDGB Cup , but was no longer called up for Rostock's first team in the further course of the season.

In the summer of 1973, Jessas moved to BSG Stahl Brandenburg , for which he played 40 point games, mainly as a midfielder, in the second-rate GDR league in the 1973/74 to 1975/76 seasons. With the steel team, he only occupied places in the middle of the final table. In 1976 he moved on to the then league promoted 1. FC Union Berlin , for whom he played 13 appearances in his first season in 1976/77 . With only five league appearances in the following season 1977/78 , Jessa was only one of the football club's reservists. After he had made another 15 league appearances for Berlin in the 1978/79 season , he finally moved from Union to city rivals BSG KWO Berlin .

With the team promoted from the third-class district league, Jessa managed to stay in the GDR league in 1979/80 . After only one season, however, he moved on to league competitor BSG Chemie PCK Schwedt , with whom he narrowly missed the promotion games to the league in 1981/82 . After Schwedt was only in the middle of the final table in 1982/83 and had to accept relegation to the district league in 1983/84 due to the reduction in the GDR league, Jessa finally ended his career as a football player in 1984.

After the end of his football career, Jessa returned to 1. FC Union Berlin. There he initially worked in the organizational area and later coached the club's children's and boys' teams.
