Bernd Lindner (born November 20, 1952 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) is a German cultural historian , cultural sociologist , author and curator .

Live and act

Bernd Lindner studied cultural studies , literary studies and sociology at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1974 to 1978 . He then worked from 1978 to 1990 as a research associate at the Central Institute for Youth Research in Leipzig in cultural and media research.

Lindner was promoted to Dr. phil. at the Humboldt University is doing her doctorate with a thesis on reading behavior of young people in the GDR (published 1989) From 1990 to 1992 he was a research assistant at the German Youth Institute in Munich / Leipzig branch, and from 1992 to 1994 he was a habilitation fellow from the German Research Foundation . In 1995 Bernd Lindner completed his habilitation at the University of Karlsruhe with a thesis on the reception of visual art in eastern Germany from 1945 to 1995 (published in 1998). In 2001, the University of Karlsruhe (now the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology ) awarded Lindner the extraordinary professorship for cultural and youth sociology.

From 1994 to the end of 2015, Bernd Lindner was a research associate at the Contemporary History Forum Leipzig , which is part of the House of History Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany. There he worked as a curator of contemporary and cultural history exhibitions and was also responsible for the collection areas of photography, visual arts and commercial graphics.

Bernd Lindner is the author of numerous academic publications and non-fiction books with a focus on cultural history, GDR history and the sociology of art and youth. His research and publication activities focus on the generations of young people, the history of the Peaceful Revolution of 1989/90 in the GDR , street political culture, popular and everyday culture (with a focus on rock music and comics) as well as photography and art reception.

Lindner lives and works in Leipzig.
