Bernhard Droste (born February 17, 1927 in Münster ; † July 5, 2019 there ) was a German architect .

Life

After school, military service and imprisonment in World War II, Bernhard Droste began training as a bricklayer after 1945. He then graduated from the State Building School in Münster. From 1952 he was able to deepen his knowledge in the office of the architect Hans Ostermann and take on the first implementation planning. In the years 1953–1955 he worked in the Dieter Oesterlen office in Hanover. In 1955 he returned to the office of Hans Ostermann, whose partner he became from 1955 and later his successor.

Under the name "Ostermann und Droste", the first buildings were built in Münster from 1955: including the administration building of the Chamber of Crafts on Lake Aasee. Many residential buildings, administrative and commercial buildings, schools, hospitals and kindergartens followed. His architectural work is most diverse in the church buildings that were implemented in the entire north-west of Germany in the 1960s and 1970s. Whether as an extension or as a new building: Bernhard Droste often chose tent-shaped structures for the new divine rooms, which were built using modern concrete construction. Particularly striking examples are St. Norbert in Lünen, St. Michael in Lingen and St. Matthäus in Melle. From 1981 he carried out his projects in partnership with Werner Voskort. He retired in 2002.

Bernhard Droste married the daughter of the architect Hans Ostermann, Gabriele Ostermann. The marriage resulted in two daughters. He shortened his first name to "Bernt" himself. In retirement he wrote a volume of poetry “Nature and Time. What is happening around us. "
