Bernhard Prince

Bernhard Georg Prince (* 4. November 1954 in Arberhütte in Bavaria ) is a German Major General of the Air Force of the Armed Forces retired. In his last post he was Vice Chairman of the NATO Air and Missile Defense Committee in Brussels from August 1, 2013 to October 1, 2016 .

Military career

In 1974, Fürst joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate . After attending the Air Force Officer's School , he studied electrical engineering at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich from 1975 to 1979 . He then received training as an anti-aircraft missile officer at the Air Force Missile School in Fort Bliss , Texas .

HAWK weapon system

In 1980, Fürst returned to Germany and served as platoon leader and fire control officer for the HAWK weapon system in the 32 anti-aircraft missile battalion in Freising . From 1983 to 1984, Fürst was the captain of the non-commissioned officer course in the anti-aircraft missile regiment 1 in Lenggries . After serving as an operations officer and squadron chief in the 1st squadron of the anti-aircraft missile battalion 32 in Freising, he took part in the National General Staff / Admiralty Staff Training Course (LGAN) at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg from 1987 to 1989 .

After serving in the command of the 4th Air Force Division in Aurich from 1989 to 1991 as an operational general staff officer for issues relating to the implementation of air defense systems, Fürst was a consultant in Staff Department III "Military Policy and Management" in the command staff of the armed forces in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn until 1993 . In 1993 the troops were deployed as commander of anti-aircraft missile group 34 in Rottenburg an der Laaber . From 1995 to 1997, Fürst was a tutor and lecturer in aerial warfare at the national course on General Staff / Admiralty Staff Service at the Command Academy of the Bundeswehr, then until 1999 as a lecturer in the conceptual fundamentals of air warfare in the Air Force command and control department.

In 2003 he returned to Aurich as deputy commander of the 4th Air Force Division , where he was appointed Brigadier General in 2004. From 2006 to 2009, Fürst was Chief of Staff in the Air Force Command in Cologne .

From April 2009 to May 2013 he was in command of the 2nd Air Force Division in Birkenfeld. In addition, from May 2012 to May 2013 he was Deputy Chief of Staff Resources at the ISAF headquarters in Kabul . He succeeded Army General Wolfgang Köpke .

From August 1, 2013 to October 1, 2016, Fürst was Vice Chairman of the NATO Air and Missile Defense Committee in Brussels before handing over his post to Brigadier General Bernhardt Schlaack and retiring.

Private

Fürst is married and has two daughters.
