Bernhard Hartmann (born May 29, 1947 ), mostly called Bernd Hartmann , is a former German soccer goalkeeper who was under contract with the traditional Bavarian clubs TSV 1860 Munich (1974–1979) and 1. FC Nürnberg (1979–1983).

career

Before he became a professional football goalkeeper , Hartmann , who came from the Ruhr area , learned the trade of miner and worked regularly underground until he was 22 years old.

His football career began with his hometown club Herringer SV near Hamm . From there he came to TSV 1860 Munich via TSG Harsewinkel and Westfalia Herne . He had had a goalkeeping problem since the departure of goalkeeping legend Petar Radenković and tried to get this under control before the 1974/75 season by signing two excellent goalkeepers. The first goalkeeper was supposed to be the Haitian Henri Françillon , who was so convincing at the 1974 World Cup , and Hartmann was supposed to be an equivalent substitute just in case. But it turned out differently. Hartmann convinced his then coach Max Merkel right from the start and completed 33 of the 38 second division games in the 1974/75 season, while Françillon only played five times and returned to his home country at the end of the season.

Especially in his third season in 1860, Hartmann knew how to please with numerous brilliant saves and excellent positional play, and with only 29 goals conceded in 38 games, he was one of the guarantees for promotion to the Bundesliga at the end of the 1976/77 season. His outstanding performance this season was also awarded the Golden Glove .

Hartmann only lost his regular place in 1860 in the second half of the 1978/79 second division season. Because 1860 had taken a disappointing place in the midfield during the winter break, the club management signed the successful coach of the surprise table leader Wormatia Worms , Eckhard Krautzun . He brought two top performers from his previous club to the Isar . One of them was goalkeeper Thomas Zander , who now moved up to the starting line-up in 1860, so that Hartmann, who was banished to the bench, preferred to move to 1. FC Nürnberg at the end of the season. There he was promoted to the first goalkeeper again and played all 38 second division point games of the 1979/80 season, at the end of which was also promotion to the Bundesliga. In the following three Bundesliga seasons, however, he was only used 16 times. Shortly after his 36th birthday, Hartmann ended his professional career at the end of the 1982/83 season.
