Bernhard Huhn (Bishop)
Bernhard Huhn (born August 4, 1921 in Liegnitz ; † September 14, 2007 in Görlitz ) was Bishop and Apostolic Administrator of Görlitz .
Life
After studying Catholic theology , Huhn received the sacrament of ordination to the priesthood on December 20, 1953 in Neuzelle from Bishop Heinrich Wienken . Initially active as a chaplain at St. Jakobus Görlitz for two years, Huhn was soon appointed as a diocesan youth pastor. In 1959 he became rector of the Görlitz Catechetical Seminar and in 1964 a full-time councilor in the Archbishopric of Görlitz. In 1968 he was appointed by Chapter Vicar Gerhard Schaffran as the last German clergyman to be a member of the Metropolitan Chapter of St. John Breslau. After the appointment of Chapter Vicar Schaffran as Bishop of Meißen , Bernhard Huhn became his General Vicar for the Görlitz-Cottbus diocesan district.
Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 13, 1971 titular bishop of Tasaccora and auxiliary bishop in Görlitz. He received his episcopal ordination on December 11th of the same year by Gerhard Schaffran. Co -consecrators were Bishop Heinrich Theissing from Schwerin and the Berlin auxiliary bishop Johannes Kleineidam .
With the establishment of the Apostolic Administration Görlitz on June 28, 1972, Huhn was appointed its Apostolic Administrator. He headed this up to its elevation to the diocese on September 3, 1994. On this occasion, Pope John Paul II accepted Huhn's early resignation, which he had offered the Pope two years before the retirement age provided for in the Codex iuris canonici to help the newly founded To enable a long-term diocese leadership.
He became known beyond the region for his efforts to achieve reconciliation between Germans and Poles. The native of Lower Silesia sponsored the cross-border Corpus Christi procession, which was first organized in 1991 by Catholics from Görlitz and the neighboring Polish town of Zgorzelec .
