Bernard King (* 4. October 1948 in Innsbruck , Austria ) is an Austrian legal scholar and emeritus professors .

life and career

Bernhard König studied law from the late 1960s. A few years after his doctorate , in 1975 he was awarded the Venia docendi for “civil procedural law”. His habilitation , also in 1975, dealt with the subject of conformity, violation of files and obvious violation of the law in civil court proceedings and was published decades later by Springer-Verlag . After his appointment as associate university professor (ao. Univ.-Prof.) (In the professorial curia), he was appointed full university professor (o. Univ.-Prof.) For "civil court procedural law" in 1982 . Before that, he had research stays at the University of Padua (1979) and at the University of Firenze (1981). After he had already been active as a defense lawyer in criminal matters from 1974 and also as a public agent from 1985 , he was awarded the Venia Docendi in 1986 for the subject of "civil law". He wrote his habilitation thesis on the subject of contestation according to the bankruptcy code and was published by Manz-Verlag in 2014 in its 5th edition . In 1990, König did another research stay at the College of Law at the University of Florida in Gainesville , Florida .

From the early 1990s, König pursued a career in the Austrian economy and, among other things, was a member of the supervisory board of Steirerbrau AG from 1993 to 1998 , which in 1998 became 100% part of Brau Union Österreich AG , of which König was a member of the supervisory board from 1997 to 1999 . In addition, from 1994 to 2003 he was a member of the supervisory board of Brauerei Schwechat AG and its holding company. Between 1998 and 2002, König was also deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Getränke-Holding AG and from 1998 to 2003 a member of the supervisory board or deputy chairman of Brau-Beteiligungs AG . Between 2002 and 2003 he also acted as deputy chairman at Getränke-Beteiligungs AG , before he concentrated more on his teaching activities again. On October 1, 2004, he took over the management of the Institute for Civil Court Proceedings at the University of Innsbruck and held this position until February 28, 2013. He was also a member of the Faculty Council from 2004 to 2014. At times he also held other positions in the private sector and was occasionally chairman of the advisory board of the Arlberger Bergbahnen AG board and member of the board of the Stedile-Foradori-Privatstiftung (the private foundation of the head of the Arlberger Bergbahnen, Mario Stedile-Foradori ).

From 1991 he was arbitrator of the permanent arbitration tribunal of the Bozen Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture and from 1999 arbitrator of the permanent arbitration tribunal of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce . He was also a member of the FIS court, the court of the Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS), based in Switzerland . He was also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the private university in the Principality of Liechtenstein until 2013. At the University of Innsbruck he was a member of various administrative bodies; for example, as chairman of the study grant authority or as chairman of the staff committee of the law faculty. In autumn 2015, he was, among other things, laudatory speech at the presentation of the Great Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria to his colleague Bernhard Eccher .

Until his retirement he was a member of the judges' examination commission at the Innsbruck Higher Regional Court . His retirement took place on October 1, 2017. In the course of his career, König published numerous articles; especially his nominal subjects civil court proceedings and civil law. He also published various articles on sports law and various manuals on temporary legal protection and the right to avoid insolvency . He has worked as a specialist translator on numerous editions of Italian state laws.
