Bernhard Laurits Frederik Bang

Bernhard Laurits Frederik Bang (born June 7, 1848 in Sorø on Zealand ; † June 22, 1932 in Copenhagen - Frederiksberg ) was a Danish veterinarian and bacteriologist .

Life

Bang was the son of the teacher and head of the Sorø Akademis lærde skole and later titular professor Jacob Henrik Bang (1809-1899) and Laura Louise Marie Josephine Moth (1814-1891).

Bang studied medicine in Copenhagen until 1872 and veterinary medicine until 1873. He graduated from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University , received his doctorate in 1880. He went on study trips to European veterinary schools and became professor of surgery at the Veterinary School in Copenhagen. In 1889 he became professor for special pathological anatomy.

From 1932 he was a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences .

Act

As early as the 1890s, Bang was primarily concerned with infectious diseases , in particular with measures to combat bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis . Brucellosis has also been named Bang's disease after him as the discoverer . Bang's work on bovine tuberculosis enabled effective disease control techniques by isolating the sick animals.
