Bernhard Schipphorst

Bernhard Schipphorst (born June 27, 1912 ; † unknown) was a German football player . Between 1936 and 1941 he was represented with 1. SV Jena four times in the final round of the German soccer championship . In 1952/53 he played with BSG Motor Jena in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

From 1935 Bernhard Schipphorst played for 1. SV Jena in the football Gauliga Mitte and was Gauliga champion in 1935, 1936, 1940 and 1941. In the four final rounds of the German Championship, Schipphorst played 21 of the 22 group games and scored two goals. When football could be played regularly again after the Second World War , Schipphorst became Jena district champion with the SG Ernst Abbe Jena. When the Thuringia regional class was held for the first time in 1948/49 , Schipphorst was there with SG Stadion Jena, which was converted into BSG Carl Zeiss Jena in 1949. The 1949/50 season closed the BSG as a climber in the newly created second-rate GDR league . Schipphorst was involved in this success with twelve of 24 point games as a defender or midfielder.

In the GDR league season 1950/51 , the Jenaer BSG started as Mechanik Jena. There were 18 games played, of which Schipphorst completed fourteen games predominantly as a left defender. For the 1951/52 season there was another name change, Jena now played as BSG Motor. Schipphorst was also used as a left defender in 21 of 22 league games. He had a significant share in the rise in the GDR league. Meanwhile 40 years old, he was called up in 29 of the 32 league games in 1952/53 . From the ninth game day on, he also worked as a game coach. The Jenaer did not manage to stay in the league and appeared again in the GDR league for the 1953/54 season. The 41-year-old Schipphorst was in the team for the last time, but only played in three league games in the first half of the season. With Max Hofsommer , the Jena team had found a new coach, whom Schipphorst had to replace from the 8th to the 11th match day. Schipphorst then worked as an assistant coach until the end of the season and then withdrew from active football.
