Bernhard Schmid (master builder)

Bernhard Schmid (born September 26, 1872 in Bernburg ; † February 11, 1947 in Husum ) was a German architect and preservationist.

Life

Bernhard Schmid attended high school in Kołberg and then studied structural engineering at the Technical University of Charlottenburg . He entered the Prussian construction service. As a government building manager, he devoted himself to Rhenish architecture in Koblenz. In 1897 he came to Marienburg. Having emerged from a career in government building, Schmid most recently had the rank of senior building officer. As a government building manager in Marienburg (1895), he made the preservation and construction of the Marienburg his life's work. Since 1900 he lived permanently in Marienburg. After he had long been appointed provincial curator of the provinces of East Prussia and West Prussia , from 1922 he was named “Master Builder of the Marienburg”. He reported on his work at the castle in the writings of the Königsberg Scholar Society . At the Königsberg Kant celebration (1924) he was awarded honorary doctorates from the Albertus University of Königsberg alongside Oscar Almgren and Agnes Miegel .
