Bernhard Todt

Bernhard Todt (born November 5, 1829 in Dünnow , Pomerania ; † October 2, 1891 in Magdeburg ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher. In Hanover and Magdeburg he was a provincial school councilor.

Life

Todt visited the Francke Foundations . After graduating from high school, he studied Classical Philology , Philosophy and Protestant Theology at the Friedrichs University in Halle . In 1849 he was one of the founders of the Corps Neoborussia Halle . His teachers included Gottfried Bernhardy , Heinrich Leo , Hermann Ulrici and August Tholuck . After the exams he was a teacher on the Latina , from Michaelis 1856 in Treptow an der Rega and from Michaelis 1861 in Nordhausen . Michaelis In 1864 he became director of the Henneberg High School in Schleusingen . From there he came to Hanover ( Province of Hanover ) as a provincial school council . In 1869 he became the successor to Karl-Gustav Heiland in Magdeburg ( Province of Saxony ). He wrote a Greek vocabulary and numerous treatises on Aeschylus and Dionysius I of Syracuse . After Gottfried von Villehardouin and Niketas Choniates , he described the conquest of Constantinople (1204) in the Fourth Crusade . He translated the tragedies of Aeschylus into the German language . He died in office at the age of 61.
