Bernhard Uhde

Bernhard Uhde (born October 8, 1948 in Augsburg ) is a German Catholic theologian and professor at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau .

Life

Bernhard Uhde was born in Augsburg in 1948. After graduating from the humanistic Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main , he studied Catholic theology , philosophy , religious studies and ancient history at the University of Mainz and the University of Freiburg . In 1973 he became the first philosophy and human bondage with his work . Studies on the History of the First Philosophy. Part I: From the beginnings to Aristotle, PhD in philosophy at the University of Freiburg . The dissertation was awarded the Prize of the Freiburg Scientific Society in 1977 . In 1982 he completed his habilitation in the subject of the history of religion at the University of Freiburg with the text “Presence and Unity. Experiment on Religion ”.

Bernhard Uhde was professor at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Freiburg for the subject of religious studies from 2001 to 2016 . Since 2004 he has been honorary professor at the Catholic University of Freiburg for the subjects of religious studies and philosophy of religion , since 2011 honorary professor for the subject interreligious communication at the German University in Armenia (DUA) in Yerevan, since 2011 honorary professor for the subjects of religious studies and religious philosophy at the Sulkhan Saba Orbeliani University of Tbilisi / Georgia and since 2014 Honorary Professor of Philosophy at the Department Académico de Humanidades at the Pontifical University of Lima / Peru (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú) . He had lectureships at universities in Germany and abroad for the subject of religious studies. Uhde also was a visiting professor at the Faculty of Roman Catholic theology of Universitatea "Babes-Bolyai" Cluj-Napoca in Cluj , Romania operates, and at various other institutions as a speaker.

Since 2003 he has been a member of the board of trustees of the foundation of the state of Baden-Württemberg "Humanism Today". From 2011 to 2015 he co-founded and directed the "Institute West-Eastern Wisdom at the University of Freiburg", which was funded by the "Non-Profit Academy West-Eastern Wisdom" in Holzkirchen / Lower Franconia. This institute offered a four-semester extra-occupational contact course “Spirituality and Interculturality”. In 2015, Bernhard Uhde founded the “Institute for Interreligious Studies Freiburg” as the successor to the “Institute for West-Eastern Wisdom”, which he is director and which also offers a four-semester contact course. This institute is sponsored by the non-profit association “Interreligious Studies eV” in Freiburg, of which Uhde is the 1st chairman. Uhde also founded the non-profit association of “Friends of the Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Teaching University in Tbilisi / Georgia” in 2015 and is its 1st chairman. As of 2017, Uhde has also taken on the role of "Islamic representative at the Archdiocese of Freiburg". In 2019 Uhde was co-founder of the non-profit "Christian-Islamic Society Freiburg eV" and is its 2nd chairman.

Uhde has been a member of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem since 2005 , and from 2007 to 2010 he was Chief Commander of the Commandery St. Albertus Magnus in Freiburg.

In 2008 Uhde was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Federal Cross of Merit ) for his “diverse services to interreligious dialogue at home and abroad”.

His main research interests are in the field of religious studies “Philosophical Implications of World Religions”, “Theology of Religions”, “ Mysticism ” and “ Philosophy of Religion”. Uhde has published a large number of writings, essays and research papers in the fields of religious history, Catholic theology and philosophy. Together with Markus Enders , he is the editor of the Scientia & Religio series published by Verlag Karl Alber .

He is the grandson of the art historian Hermann Uhde-Bernays (1873–1965). Bernhard Uhde is a member of the KDSt.V. Wildenstein Freiburg, the AV Salia-Silesia Gleiwitz , both in the CV . He was an honorary member of the Freiburg fraternity, Saxo-Silesia, but resigned this membership in 2020 and resigned from the fraternity.
