Bernhausen (Swabian Bernhausa ['bɛrnhousɐ̃]) is a district of Filderstadt in the center of Baden-Württemberg , directly south of the state capital Stuttgart .

Today's Bernhausen district includes the village of Bernhausen, the Klinkermühle house, the Bernhäuser Forest, which can only be approached from Leinfelden-Echterdingen- Stetten, as well as the lost villages of Dachtgraben, Horwe, Sigelinshuos and possibly Wolfschlugen.

The FILharmonie congress center is located in Bernhausen, and the airfreight center of Stuttgart Airport and a large part of its runway are located in the district .

The local name is Krauthengst.

history

Excavations from 1990 indicate a Neolithic village around 5000 BC. Chr.

In the 7th century the Gallus Church (today Jakobus Church) was founded and Bernhausen was Christianized.

The first documentary mention was made in 1089 as "Berinhusen" (as the early Swabian name for "Bero dwelling"), when Volmar and Rudolf von Bernhausen are mentioned as witnesses to the Bempflingen Treaty .

In 1287 Bernhausen was destroyed in the war between King Rudolf von Habsburg and the Counts of Württemberg . The noble family of the Lords of Bernhausen sold their right to rule to the Counts of Württemberg in the 14th century.

The tower of the Galluskirche was built in 1422, making it the oldest building in Filderstadt today. In 1475 the construction of the Gallus Church was finished.

By the end of the Thirty Years War , the population had dropped from around 600 to 350 and 90 of the 219 buildings had been destroyed or damaged.

Franz Maria von Bernhausen, the last member of the noble family of the Barons von Bernhausen, died in 1839.

At the time of the Duchy of Württemberg , of the Kingdom and of the People's State of Württemberg, Bernhausen belonged to the office or the Oberamt Stuttgart . During the district reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , the community came to the Esslingen district in 1938 . In 1945 it came into the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952 .

On January 1, 1975, the municipality of  Bernhausen auf den Fildern  merged with the municipalities of Bonlanden auf den Fildern , Harthausen , Plattenhardt and Sielmingen to form the municipality of Filderlinden, the name of which was changed to "Filderstadt" on July 25 of the same year.
