Bonlanden (Swabian Bõlanda ['bõlandɐ̃]) is a district of the large district town of Filderstadt in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Bonlanden lies on the edge of the Filder plain on the edge of Schönbuch. From the north the village is traversed by the Bombach, which flows into the Aich at the exit of the Bombachtal and forms, among other things, the natural monument "Teufelswiesen". In the Bombachtal, which lies south of the village, there is a clear fault of up to 80 meters, which is forested and represents the southwestern edge of the Fildergraben, where the Unterjura floe subsided . It marks a clear boundary line between the two natural spaces.

history

Bonlanden 1683 in Andreas Kieser's forest inventory book

It is estimated that Bonlanden was founded around the 8th or 9th century, so the community was founded later than the other Filder places. The prefix “Bon-” is derived from the Old High German “boum”, “bon” or “bom”, which means something like “tree”. This place name suggests a cleared area. This prefix is still used today in the "Bombach" flowing through the town.

It was first mentioned in a document in 1269, when the knight Wolfelin von Bonlanden bequeathed his court to the Bebenhausen monastery, which was located in Leinfelden. The coat of arms of this nobleman handed down on a seal was a two-part shield with a standing lion and an eagle's wing. In 1912 it was adopted by Bonlanden as the local coat of arms.

Bonlanden was owned by the Lords of Stöffeln in the 13th century, as a branch line was located here. With Eberhardt von Stöffeln this died out in 1377 and the village passed to his sister Guta, who in turn was married to Hermann von Sachsenheim. At the beginning of the 15th century, Count Eberhard von Württemberg acquired the place, which became part of Württemberg.

Bonlanden was part of the Duchy of Württemberg , of the Kingdom since 1806, and of the People's State since 1918, to the Office or Oberamt Stuttgart . During the district reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , the community came to the Esslingen district in 1938 . In 1945 it came into the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952 .

On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Bonlanden auf den Fildern merged with the municipalities of Bernhausen, Harthausen, Plattenhardt and Sielmingen to form the municipality of Filderlinden , whose name was changed to " Filderstadt " on July 25 of the same year .

The local name is "Saisoicher", Seepinkler.

Settlement development

Historical settlement development

The oldest buildings in Bonlanden are around the former castle. The castle was on the spot where the rectory stands today (Georgstrasse 1). On the Bühler Feld, southeast of the current development, a desertification has been proven (Bühl?). Presumably this settlement already existed before the Bonland Castle and was abandoned by its inhabitants at that time. Later Bonlanden consisted of an upper and a lower village, which at that time were a few hundred meters apart. While the upper village, which was higher up on the slope, was rather richer, which can also be seen in the houses that have been preserved, the lower village, which was on the Bombach, had a mill at the outflow of the Bonland lake, but poorer farmers lived there. Up until the Second World War , the village had expanded along the main roads and thus at that time had more of a street village character .

Modern development

After the Second World War , Bonlanden took in many expellees. The Bonland self-help settlement cooperative ensured the construction of new residential buildings, especially along Roggenstrasse. At the end of the 1950s, Bonlanden's population grew explosively. Many residential areas were designated during this time. In the 1960s and 1970s, there were also many repatriate farms, as agriculture was moved from the center of the village to the outside area. The sports halls, the sports grounds and the education center were built.

Other important buildings of this time were the Filderklinik (belonging to the Bonlanden development, but on the Plattenhardter mark) as well as the Fildorado leisure pool and the Vogelsang residential park.

As early as 1959, a "satellite town" Bonlanden-Plattenhardt was planned, which should have a total of over 60,000 inhabitants. In the planning at the time, emphasis was placed on a well-developed infrastructure (motorway connection) and recreational areas ( Schönbuch ). The plans were not pursued any further, but were taken up again by the former mayor Friedhardt Pascher in the 1970s. Due to the close proximity to each other, the structural merger of the two villages was driven forward. Plattenhardt aligned his industrial area in the direction of Bonland, while Bonlanden built a large school and sports center (Seefällehalle, Fildorado, Uhlbergschule) in the Reutewiesental between the towns.

A union should also take place at the political level, after which the two places should be united into one city. These plans were discarded when they merged with Bernhausen, Sielmingen and Harthausen to form Filderstadt in 1975 . The vigorous construction projects were also partially abandoned as general environmental awareness grew.

Newer construction projects

The largest new development areas in recent decades are in the Kreuzäckern and in the north of Bonlanden, where a modern settlement with up to 6-story buildings has been built since the turn of the century. During the planning, special emphasis was placed on the design of a family-friendly and green district. Other important construction activities in 2006 were the conversion of the Fildorado into an innovative bathroom, which has now doubled its capacity from 300,000 to 600,000 visitors annually, as well as a careful upgrading of the town center through renovation.

Churches

The oldest church in Bonlanden is the late Gothic Georgskirche. In addition to this Protestant church, the town has the Catholic Church of Our Lady, built in 1956. The Methodist Church, the Christian Alliance and the New Apostolic Church are also present in Bonlanden.

schools

The oldest school building in Bonlanden is today's Bürgeramt (Oberdorfstrasse 10), built in 1771. Another, smaller school building (Oberdorfstrasse 26, built around 1815) was demolished in 1999. For reasons of space, the Schillerschule was built in 1907 , which was enlarged by an extension in 1950 and is still in use as a primary school today. In the 1960s , the Uhlbergschule was built in Seefälle as a primary and secondary school, which was later expanded to become the Seefälle educational center (today primary, technical and secondary school). The Waldorf School is located on the Gutenhalde site .

economy

Buildings that point to an intensive agricultural economy and thus rural prosperity can hardly be found in Bonlanden. Due to the location, agriculture had a different focus than on the rest of the Filder plain . The soils around the place have always been less productive because here the fertile loess soils of the Filder end and the Schönbuch begins. There was also a lot of hillside land. That is why the livestock industry was more important here. The nearby forest foothills of the Schönbuch represented an advantage. However, the potential was soon exhausted in the 18th century through intensive cultivation (pig fattening). Due to the sparse agriculture, handicrafts have always been of great importance. The broom and brush trade in Bonlanden is known regionally. Up to 1976 there were still brush and broom makers in Bonlanden. In the 1960s, Bonlanden became an industrial location through the settlement of numerous companies.

The number of farms has decreased sharply since World War II. Almost all farms in the town center gave up agriculture, and from the 1960s onwards, some businesses south of the town that had specialized in cattle breeding were relocated. The main reason for this development was the structural change in agriculture and the loss of arable land and meadows due to overbuilding.

Today agriculture is concentrated on a few resettler farms. Horse breeding and vegetable growing are particularly practiced there. Only a few part-time and small businesses and horticulture for self-sufficiency have remained in the village.

The development of the “Affelter” industrial park has made it possible for some companies to settle here, such as the manufacturer of self-adhesive technology, Herma and Octanorm, Modine and SMK, most recently clothing Hugo Boss .

Attractions

For Filderstadt, Bonlanden has a very high proportion of historical buildings. Many building ensembles such as courtyards, inns or half-timbered houses have been preserved. Many are listed as historical monuments and are listed in the "Historisches Rundweg Filderstadt".

Around the late Gothic Georgskirche there are old buildings such as the Schafhof from the 16th century, which was part of the stately Maierhof, the old town hall, which now houses the Filder City Museum, and the Protestant rectory with ramparts and moats.

In 1940, a property in the style of a north German manor was built by the entrepreneur Willy Bürkle on a 17 hectare area south of the village .

"Crown"

The “Krone” inn was used as an economy until the 1950s and as a butcher's shop until the 1980s. The building achieved a regional peculiarity when the singer Alfons Fügel was born in one of its attic apartments in 1912 . Today it is used as a second-hand shop.

"Lamb"

The "Lamm" (Unterdorfstrasse 24) changed hands several times. In 1905 the cattle dealer Karl Ocker added a large event hall. Georg Butz (lamb host 1914–1929) also added a large hall for the same purpose. The “Lamm” was run as an inn until 1968, and in 1978 the butcher's shop was also given up.

"Linden"

The Gasthaus zur Linde (Bonländer Hauptstrasse 2) was named after the Friedenslinde in Marktstrasse that existed at the time. While the restaurant was located on the upper floor, the "Konsum", a specialty store , was located in the basement . The building was demolished in 1969 and a five-story residential and commercial building was erected in its place.
