Bernwarda Rodenkirch
Bernwarda Rodenkirch FBMVA , birth name Barbara Rodenkirch (born September 10, 1883 in Strohn , † April 5, 1979 in Waldbreitbach ) was a German nun. She was superior of the branches of the Franciscan Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Angels in Rhens and Lutzerath .
Life
Barbara Rodenkirch was born as the eldest of seven siblings in Strohn, today the Daun Association . Her father was a wheelwright and farmer .
After joining the monastery, she was in the Kyllburg branch from May 1, 1908, and then in Neuerburg . She began her novitiate on May 1, 1909 in the mother house in Waldbreitbach and celebrated her profession in 1910 , where she took the name Bernwarda. From October 25, 1910 she worked again in Neuerburg and from October 28, 1915 in Sinzig . On August 23, 1920 she moved to the Guichenbach branch (today Riegelsberg ) and on May 12, 1922 to Oberstein (today Idar-Oberstein ).
From July 1, 1930 she worked in the orphanage of the order in Neuwied. In 1952 she became superior of the branch in Rhens and from August 19, 1958 to October 6, 1964 she was in the function of the convent in Lutzerath. Today the social work that the Franciscan Sisters set up in Lutzrath is continued by Caritas .
Sister Bernwarda had made a great contribution to nursing the sick and children as well as looking after the elderly in various houses of the Waldbreitbach Franciscan Sisters. On the occasion of her golden religious profession and her 77th birthday, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on August 31, 1960 .
From October 1964 Sister Bernwarda lived in the Antoniushaus at the headquarters of the order in Waldbreitbach. Here she died in April 1979 at the age of 96.
