Bertram Winde (born February 1, 1926 in Bautzen , † March 2, 2020 in Chemnitz ) was a German physicist . From 1961 to 1963 he was acting head of the Office for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Technology in the GDR . Since 1973 he has been a university lecturer and from 1985 associate professor at the TH / TU Karl-Marx-Stadt .

Life

Winde studied physics at the Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale) and later with Robert Rompe at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He became a member of the SED . He was particularly interested in nuclear physics. He received his PhD in 1954.

With the creation of the Office for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Technology of the GDR (AKK) as a counterpart to the Ministry of Atomic Energy in the FRG, Winde became the main department head for research and development. From 1961 to 1963 he was acting head of the office. For advice on the planning and coordination of research and development tasks - primarily securing the energy supply through the construction of nuclear power plants - a Scientific Council for the peaceful use of atomic energy was also formed at the AKK . As a member of this council, Winde was head of the Isotopes Commission since 1958 and also a member of the Nuclear Energy Commission since 1960.

During his term of office as acting head of the AKK, an "Agreement on Extended Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear Physics, Reactor Technology and the Production of Radioactive Isotopes" was signed on December 28, 1961 between the GDR and the USSR. This agreement formed the basis for the continued use of nuclear energy in the GDR.

After the AKK was dissolved, Winde was director of the Central Institute for Information and Documentation (ZIID) from 1967 to 1973 . From 1973 onwards winds university professor of experimental physics at the TH / TU Karl-Marx-Stadt , where he in 1983 with the work "to physics and technical applications of hard carbon and boron / nitrogen layers" habilitation was. On September 1, 1985 he was appointed associate professor for solid state physics. He retired on September 30, 1991 .

In addition to his academic work, he was the author of several popular science books.

Winde was married and had three sons. He was u. a. Member of the Pirckheimer Society .
