Anny Felbermayer , actually Anna Maria Felbermayer-Szekely , (* July 21, 1924 in Vienna ; † September 5, 2014 there ) was an Austrian song, oratorio and opera singer (lyric soprano ).

Life

Anny Felbermayer was the well-protected child of a Viennese family of craftsmen, with early stays in Hungary, and graduated from business school. She studied piano and singing privately and at the University of Music and Performing Arts (E. Rado, P. Mark-Neusser and J. Witt) with the final examination in 1949. She won the Cebotari Prize in Vienna and singing competitions in Geneva and Verviers. Concert and radio activities in Vienna, Germany and Italy followed.

In 1950 she made her debut as a maid in Martha at the Vienna State Opera , then at the Theater an der Wien . She was a member of the ensemble of the State Opera until 1982, where she appeared in 54 roles in 979 performances. There were also engagements at La Scala in Milan , the Brussels Opera , the Teatro Liceo Barcelona , the Graz City Theater and the Salzburg Festival , almost annually from 1952 onwards.

As a singer of concerts with songs, arias and oratorios, the following should be mentioned: cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and his St. Matthew Passion , all songs by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and in 1951 a concert in the great hall of the Musikverein in which she performed arias from Mozart's operas; further mention are of Joseph Haydn the Theresienmesse , The Creation , the Stabat Mater and 1952 a concert in the concert hall where they in Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ participated. A concert performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Fidelio under Herbert von Karajan took place in 1953 in the Zurich Tonhalle (Marcelline). One of her records contains songs by Johannes Brahms and Antonín Dvořák's gypsy melodies . Further recordings include sixteen songs by Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler's Four Early Songs and Songs from Lately , both with piano accompaniment and with the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera (1951). In Gustav Mahler's Resurrection Symphony , Anny Felbermayer sang the soprano part with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the direction of FC Adler.

Of the many opera performances in which the singer of the Vienna State Opera took part, Le nozze di Figaro (Barbarina and Susanna), Aida (priestess), Madame Butterfly (Kate Pinkerton), Don Carlo (voice from heaven), Rigoletto (Giovanna) , Jenůfa (Barena) and operas by Richard Strauss are highlighted. Anny Felbermayer took part in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro both under Erich Kleiber and in 1957 at the Salzburg Festival under Karl Böhm . There was also a performance of Mozart's Idomeneo there in 1956 , in which the singer participated. In 1950 there was a performance of Luigi Cherubini's Les deux journées in Vienna with the Lower Austrian Tonkünstlerorchester under H. Täubler. The singer appeared as Nanette in the new staging of Albert Lortzing's Der Wildschütz (1960) at the Vienna State Opera . Her appearances as The Sandman and The Taumännchen in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel will be remembered. The singer took part in many Richard Strauss operas, such as Ariadne , Arabella , Intermezzo (new production 1963 at Theater an der Wien), Elektra (Salzburg Festival 1957) and the State Opera premiere (1970) of the Egyptian Helena . In the world premiere of Die Liebe der Danae (1952) at the Salzburg Festival under Clemens Krauss , Anny Felbermayer sang Xanthe. The artist Blanchefleur sang in a concert performance of Wilhelm Kienzl's Der Kuhreigen . Anny Felbermayer sang Lucy in Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera with the choir and ensemble of the Vienna State Opera. In her memories, the artist particularly highlights the new production (1951) by Falstaff (Nanetta) under Clemens Krauss, the new production (1952) by Arabella (Zdenka) and the participation in the Salzburg Festival (1952 to 1958), such as in the world premiere of Liebe the Danae (Xanthe) emerged from Clemens Krauss. She looked back on other roles at the Vienna State Opera, such as Pamina in the Magic Flute , Susanna in Figaro's Wedding , Zerlina in Don Giovanni , Liu in Turandot , Marcelline in Fidelio , Ighino in Palestrina and Gretel in Hansel and Gretel . She has special memories of guest appearances as Marzelline in Fidelio under Herbert von Karajan in Geneva, Zurich and Basel. She also thought back to guest performances by the Vienna State Opera in Paris, Brussels, London and Wiesbaden.

Anny Felbermayer was buried in the family grave in the cemetery of the Simmering fire hall (Section 1, Ring 3, Group 2, No. 46), where Trude Waehner also found her final resting place.
