Bertrand Ract-Madoux
Bertrand Ract-Madoux (born February 9, 1953 in Saumur ) is a former French general, chief of staff of the army and former governor of the Hôtel des Invalides .
Life
Ract-Madoux's father was also in the French army. After two years at the La Flèche Military School , he went to the Saint-Cyr Military School in 1972 . After military school, he went to the arm blindée et cavalerie .
In July 1995 he took command of the 1st Régiment de Spahis in Valence and was promoted to colonel on October 1, 1996 . From February to June 1996 he headed the second Implementation Force in Sarajevo in the former Yugoslavia . In September 1999 he became an auditor at the Center for Advanced Military Research and an intern at the Institute for Advanced National Defense Studies. In the summer of 2000 he became deputy head of the Bureau for Studies and Military Strategy. In August 2002 he took command of the 2nd tank brigade in Orléans and was appointed brigadier general on September 1st .
Between October 2003 and February 2004 he took part in the Opération Licorne in Ivory Coast as tactical commander of the French armed forces . In August 2004 he gave up command of the second tank brigade. On June 1, 2005, he was promoted to major general and in 2007 to lieutenant general . Since September 1, 2007, he has been Director of the Office of the Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure . On June 22, 2011, he became a general in the army. From September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2014 he was head of the second section.
On September 19, 2014, he was appointed governor of the Hôtel des Invalides. In May 2017, he was released from this office by decree of the President. On April 8, 2017, he ran for the parliamentary elections in the first constituency of Drôme, in which he was supported by Les Républicains . He won 18.86% of the vote, taking second place behind Mireille Clapot from the LREM . His son Ferréol Ract-Madoux was a senior civil servant and died in 2010.
