The Professional Association of German Surgeons eV (BDC), based in Berlin-Mitte, is the surgeons' association in Europe with the largest number of members and represents the surgical interests of all surgeons working in clinics or in private practice vis-à-vis politics, authorities, self-administration and the public.

history

On April 23, 1960, the professional association of German surgeons was founded in Cologne as a professional organization. 40 surgeons elected Hans Killian from Freiburg as the first chairman. Nine assessors were elected to assist him and were entrusted with setting up regional associations. In 1961, Wolfgang Müller-Osten became president of the BDC and held the post until 1982. In 1982 the association had 3,500 members. Since 1973 the association has been a member of the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes , the European association of professional medical specialist associations. Since 1998 there has been a full-time managing director to relieve the president.
