Berwick is a small settlement in the Otago regionon the South Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
The origin of the place name is not clear. According to the customary naming in New Zealand, which is usually based on English places, Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland is the most likely namesake.
geography
The settlement is located 20 km southwest of Mosgiel at the southwest end of the Taieri Plains . To the west of the settlement, the Waipori River meanders past the homesteads and a good 2 km south of the settlement is Lake Waipori and 2 km southwest of the Berwick Forest .
In Berwick there is a camp of the Otago Youth Adventure Trust .
