Hacı Beşir Ağa
Hacı Beşir Ağa (born around 1655 ; died June 3, 1746 ) was a politically extremely influential chief eunuch ( Kızlar Ağası ) at the Sultan's court in Istanbul ( Topkapı Palace ). He came from Ethiopia and came to Istanbul as a child slave in the care of the chief eunuch Yapraksız Ali Ağa. Beşir rose to Chamberlain of Crown Prince Ahmed III. and received the office of treasurer in 1705. In 1713 he was forced to live first in Cyprus and then in Egypt. Later Beşir became the chief administrator of Mecca andMedina ( Şeyhülharem ) ordered. In 1717 he returned to Istanbul, was appointed Kızlar Ağası and held this office for almost 30 years until his death. This also included the administration of the Pious Foundations in Mecca and Medina . Hacı Beşir Ağa exercised great influence in particular on Sultan Mahmud I and was involved in the award of offices and benefices. He died in 1746. His door is in Eyup .
Hacı Beşir Ağa was the founder of numerous mosques, madrasas , fountains, libraries, and tekkes . He was the owner of a valuable private library and a stud.
