Poama is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Hiiumaa (2013 to 2017: rural municipality Hiiu , before that rural municipality Kõrgessaare ) on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).

Description and history

Poama has eight residents (as of December 31, 2011).

The place is located in the northeast of the Kõpu peninsula ( Kõpu poolsaar ) directly on the Baltic Sea . The distance to the island's capital, Kärdla, is 24 kilometers.

The stream of the same name ( Poama oja ) flows east of Poama and flows into the Bay of Luidja ( Luidja laht ). To the north of the village is Lake Poama ( Poama järv ). It has an area of ​​about eight hectares. The lake is only separated from the Baltic Sea by a narrow strip of land.
