Meelste is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Hiiumaa (2013 to 2017: rural municipality Hiiu , before that rural municipality Kõrgessaare ) on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).

Description and history

Meelste (German Meelete ) has two residents (as of December 31, 2011). The village was first mentioned in 1525 under the name Melis .

The place is on the peninsula Tahkuna ( Tahkuna poolsaar ) directly on the Baltic Sea . He gave the bay of Meelste ( Meelste laht ) its name. South of the village, the Meelste ( Meelste oja ) stream flows into the sea.

The island's capital Kärdla ( Kertel ) is eleven kilometers away. In the summer months, Meelste is a popular destination for bathers.
