Ühtri (German Jüttri ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Hiiumaa (until 2017: rural municipality Käina ). It is located on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).

Description and history

Today Ühtri has 24 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). The village is located 21 kilometers from the island's capital Kärdla ( Kertel ).

The most famous son of the place is the avant-garde Estonian artist Ülo Sooster (1924–1970), who was born on the Pendi talu farm belonging to Ühtri . A small memorial can be seen at the site of the no longer existing homestead. It bears the title Kivikadakas ("stone juniper "). The juniper of his island home was one of the artist's favorite objects.
