Emmaste-Kurisu is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Hiiumaa (until 2017: rural municipality Emmaste ). Emmaste-Kurisu is located on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ). Until the reestablishment of the rural community Hiiumaa, the place was called "Kurisu" and was renamed to differentiate itself from Kurisu , as both are now in the same rural community.

Description and history

Emmaste-Kurisu has 18 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011).

Emmaste-Kurisu is located in a karst area . The largest karst funnel on the island, the Kurisoo auk, is under nature protection in Emmaste-Kurisu . The sinkhole is a hundred meters long, thirty meters wide and up to seven meters deep.
