Kurisu is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Hiiumaa (2013 to 2017: rural municipality Hiiu , before that rural municipality Kõrgessaare ) on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ). Kurisu should not be confused with Emmaste-Kurisu , which is also on Hiiumaa Island and was called Kurisu until 2017.

Kurisu (German Kurisoo ) has 23 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). The place was first mentioned in 1612. It is located 13 kilometers southwest of the island's capital Kärdla ( Kertel ).

Kurisu is located in a karst area . The village got its name from the Estonian word of the same name for sinkhole . The karst funnel, the Kurisu neeluauk , is located northeast of the village center on the edge of a forest area. The funnel has a diameter of 32 m and tapers to 12 m. It is usually filled with water; You can only see the sinkhole in midsummer. The Kurisu oja stream also flows there .
