Metsaküla is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Hiiumaa (2013 to 2017: rural municipality Hiiu , before that rural municipality Kõrgessaare ) on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).

Description and history

Metsaküla (in German "Walddorf") has three inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011).

The village is surrounded by mixed forest . The two streams Riima oja and Kurisu oja flow through the village .

Little is known about the origins of the settlement. At the end of the 18th century it was mentioned in a document as the village of Metza . At that time it belonged to the Lauka estate and already consisted of six farms.

An ax from the Neolithic Age was found near Metsaküla . The chance find is dated between 3000 and 1500 BC.
