Kodeste is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural community Hiiumaa (2013 to 2017: rural community Hiiu , before that rural community Kõrgessaare ) on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).

Description and history

Kodeste has eight residents (as of December 31, 2011). The place is located in the southwest of the Tahkuna peninsula ( Tahkuna poolsaar ), eight kilometers northwest of the island's capital Kärdla . To the northeast of the village is the 68 hectare Kodeste Moor ( Kodeste soo ).

The place was first mentioned in 1565 under the name Kotzta . In its history it was also called Pikkas or Pickpex .
