Malvaste is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Hiiumaa (2013 to 2017: rural municipality Hiiu , before that rural municipality Kõrgessaare ) on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).

The place is located on the northernmost peninsula Hiiumaas, Tahkuna ( Tahkuna poolsaar ). It is located twelve kilometers west of the island's capital Kärdla ( Kertel ). Malvaste is one kilometer from the Baltic Sea with its sandy beaches.

Orthodox chapel

The wooden Orthodox chapel with its bell tower, built in 1906, is worth seeing . It is dedicated to the prophet Elijah . The single-aisle church is thatched . The historic Malvaste forest cemetery is in the immediate vicinity.

Mihkli Farm Museum

In the Malvaste area is the Mihkli Farm Museum ( Mihkli talumuuseum ). It opened in 1998. The homestead with a total of eight buildings dates from the middle of the 19th century. It is now a branch of the Hiiumaa Museum.

In Mihkli the traditional way of life and work as well as the peasant architecture of Northern Estonia are presented. You can see residential buildings, storage houses, barns, cellars and a smoke sauna from 1915.
