Kauste is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural community Hiiumaa (2013 to 2017: rural community Hiiu , before that rural community Kõrgessaare ) on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).

Population, location and history

Kauste has three residents (as of December 31, 2011).

The place is in the west of the peninsula Tahkuna ( Tahkuna poolsaar ), eight kilometers northwest of the island capital Kärdla ( Kertel ).

Kauste was first mentioned in 1565 under the name Kowstha .
