Hiiessaare lighthouse

Hiiessaare (German Hiesaar ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural community Hiiumaa (until 2017: rural community Pühalepa ). It is located on the second largest Estonian island Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).

The place is on the Baltic Sea coast , immediately east of the airport of the island's capital Kärdla ( Kertel ). The airport, built in the early 1960s, belongs to the area of ​​the village.

As of December 31, 2011, Hiessaare has 13 inhabitants.

lighthouse

The Hiiessaare lighthouse is 19 meters above sea level. The concrete base is 17 m high. It was built in 1953.

Together with the light signal from the church of Pühalepa , the lighthouse guides the ships on the northeast coast of Hiiumaas to the port of Suuresadama .
