Pühalepa (German: Pühhalep ) is a former rural community in the Estonian Hiiu district with an area of 255 km². It had 1699 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2010). In 2017 all parishes on Hiiumaa merged to form the new rural parish Hiiumaa.
Villages
In addition to the main town Tempa belonged to the municipality of the villages Ala , Aruküla , Hagaste , Harju , Hausma , Hellamaa , Heltermaa , Hiiessaare , Hilleste , Kerema , Kukka , Kuri , Kõlunõmme , Leerimetsa , Linnumäe , Loja , Lõbembe , Lope , Määvli , Nomba , Nõmme , Palade , Paluküla , Partsi , Pilpaküla , Prählamäe , Puliste , Pühalepa , Reikama , Sakla , Salinõmme , Sarve , Soonlepa , Suuremõisa , Suuresadama , Sääre , Tammela , Tareste , Tubala , Undama , Värssu , Vahtrepa , Valipe , Viilupi and Vilivalla .
Attractions
The landscape on the east coast of the island Hiiumaa was worth seeing . Famous architectural monuments were the church of Pühalepa, which was probably started in 1255, and the manor house of the Suuremõisa manor (German: Großenhof ). The main house, completed in 1772, is one of the largest and most beautiful in Estonia.
The administration of the Hiiumaa Island Reserve was located in Salinõmme .
