The Vahtrepa area also includes the islands of Vohilaid , Hõralaid , Eerikulaid , Pujurderahu and smaller archipelago .

Before the founding of the port of Heltermaa in the middle of the 19th century, the shortest ship connection to the Estonian mainland ran from the port of Vahtrepa. The lowering of the sea level made the port, which mainly served the town of Haapsalu and the island of Vormsi , too shallow.
