Beschorneria calcicola is a species of the genus Beschorneria in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae). The specific epithet calcicola is derived from the Latin words calx , calcis for 'limestone' and -cola for 'living'.

description

Beschorneria calcicola grows stemless with dense rosettes . The stiff, upright or occasionally slightly bent back, linear leaves are slightly folded lengthways. The top is rough and keeled, the bottom a little rough. The glauke - dry greenish yellow - leaf blade is 30 to 50 centimeters long and 0.3 to 0.6 centimeters wide. The yellowish, triangular leaf sheath has a length of 4 to 6 centimeters and a width of 1.5 to 2 centimeters. The leaf margins are serrated.

The racemose inflorescence reaches a height of 115 to 230 centimeters and carries 16 to 30  flowers . The more or less pink or yellowish shaft is 80 to 100 centimeters long. The seven to 13 bracts on the shaft are pink, the ten to 17 fertile bracts are pink and dry-skinned. The 40 to 50 (rarely from 35) millimeters long, pendulous flowers stand together individually up to two, rarely threes. The linealischen to linear-spatulate tepals are outside fine downy and inside papillose . They have a conspicuous midrib, are inclined and form a tubular structure. Only the tips are spread out. The tips and the inside of the tepals are white. Outside they are pink or yellowish. The papillary, awl-like stamens are widened at their base for 1 to 1.5 millimeters. The linear, oblong light green anthers are 3 to 6 millimeters long. The elongated to nearly spherical, hexagonal, fine pubescent ovary 20 to 28 millimeters long and 15 to 18 millimeters wide. The papillary stylus is longer than the stamens and sometimes longer than the tepals. The flowering period extends from May to August / September.

The upright, almost spherical fruits are 20 to 28 millimeters long and 15 to 18 millimeters wide. They contain shiny black seeds 5 to 7 millimeters long and 4 to 5 millimeters wide.

Systematics and distribution

The first description by Abisai Josue García-Mendoza was published in 1986.
