Bettina Funcke

Bettina Funcke (* 1971 in Münster ) is a German art scholar .

Career

Funcke studied philosophy, art studies and media theory at the State University for Design in Karlsruhe and the Center for Art and Media Technology | ZKM, Karlsruhe. After completing her master's degree, she went to New York.

From 1999 to 2007 she worked as an intern and then as a lecturer at the Dia Art Foundation in New York. Then she was editor for the art magazine Parkett in the USA. In 2007 she became co-founder of the art publisher “The Leopard Press” and a member of the group “Continuous Project”. She gave lectures on aesthetics, art theory and art criticism at Bard College , at the ZKM in Karlsruhe, at Columbia University and at Yale University . At the same time, she wrote her dissertation, which was supervised by Boris Groys and Peter Sloterdijk in Karlsruhe .

As an author for contemporary art, she writes articles for international art magazines such as Artforum , Bookforum, Parkett and texts on art .

Funcke was appointed head of the publications department at dOCUMENTA (13) by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev in 2010 and was responsible for the short guide, the catalog and an illustrated book. Together with Chus Martínez , she also oversaw the publication of the series “100 Notes - 100 Thoughts”.

The author and editor lives in New York. She is married and has one daughter.
