The Beuvron (in the upper reaches: Vaucreuse ) is a river in France that runs in the Nièvre department , in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region . It rises as Vaucreuse in the municipality of Saint-Révérien and generally drains north. Only north of Neuilly , after the confluence of the left tributary Jarnosse , does the river take the name Beuvron and finally after around 40 kilometers in Clamecy it flows as a left tributary into the Yonne , which is navigable here as part of the Canal du Nivernais .
history
The source stream Vaucreuse was extended further south in the 17th century by an irrigation ditch ( Rigole de Vaucreuse ) and connected to the lake Étang d'Aron , which is fed by the river Aron . If necessary , the water could be diverted from the Aron River through an artificial bifurcation and transferred to the Yonne in order to enable timber rafting there when the water level is low.
