The phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the progressive mechanization of agriculture have led to a significant decline in population since the beginning of the 20th century ( rural exodus ).
economy
Traditionally, people lived as self-sufficient farmers from agriculture (fields and house gardens), which also included cattle breeding.
history
The place is named after St. Reverianus of Autun , who - according to local tradition - is said to have suffered his martyrdom here . According to the Edict of Tolerance of Milan (313), a chapel is said to have been built for him and his companions , from which in the Middle Ages first an oratory and later a priory of the abbeys of Saint-Martin d'Autun and Cluny emerged . During the French Revolution the place was renamed Brutus-le-Bourg , and later Saint Révézin .
Attractions
- The Église Saint-Révérien , with three aisles and an ambulatory choir, was a priory and pilgrimage church and originally dates from the 12th century. In 1723 a fire destroyed the nave ; only the three apsidial choir with its Romanesque capitals and the frescoes from the 16th century remained largely intact. In the 19th century the nave was reconstructed in Romanesque styles; the finely crafted capitals also date from this period. Church construction has been recognized as a monument historique since 1840 .
- The former priory building, built in the 16th or 17th century, served as a school and town hall for a long time.
